2024 Pesenti Vineyard
Grenache Noir

Paso Robles

Perched on steep calcareous hillsides of uplifted seabed, the Pesenti Estate is home to some of the oldest Grenache vines in California. While Paso Robles is now widely considered part of the modern Rhône pantheon, Grenache has grown on this property for more than a century, with about an acre of centenarian vines still producing fruit—a rare and remarkable testament to this variety’s long-standing place in California’s viticultural history.

Our Grenache vineyard unfolds across three plantings. The original 1920s "Outhouse Block", and the two “suitcase clones”: a 2002 planting of Grenache Noir, and a 2005 planting from Priorat.

Where Whales Once Swam

The Pesenti Vineyard has been producing grapes since 1922, establishing itself as one of Paso Robles' most historic vineyard sites. While the century-old Zinfandel vines remain at its heart, the vineyard has expanded over the decades to include Petite Syrah, Grenache Noir, and Grenache Blanc.

The property's ancient marine origins remain evident today—fossilized whale vertebrae have surfaced among the vines, offering a remarkable reminder that this celebrated vineyard was once covered by an inland sea. More than a century after its first planting, Pesenti remains a living piece of California wine history.
