2023 Dragon Vineyard
Zinfandel

Howell Mountain

Estate-farmed and certified organic, the Dragon Vineyard sits at 2,250 feet on one of Howell Mountain's highest points. Positioned above the fog line and facing east to catch the morning sun, the vineyard's rocky, red volcanic soil produces a distinctive, full-bodied Zinfandel with remarkable power and complexity.

Dragon Vineyard Zinfandel reflects both the strength and restraint of its remarkable setting. Concentrated dark fruit, wild mountain herbs, and notes of crushed volcanic stone are supported by vibrant acidity and finely woven tannins. Compared to its rugged counterpart, Rattlesnake Ridge, Dragon often reveals a softer, more polished personality—one that trades a measure of sheer mountain intensity for elegance, precision, and lift.

This wine pairs beautifully with bold, flavorful, spice-laden meats cooked over an open fire. Howell Mountain earned its distinction as Napa Valley's first designated sub-AVA for good reason—the wines from this ridge are among the most compelling in the region.

Looking East

While Howell Mountain is known for producing intensely structured wines, Dragon's eastern exposure offers a subtle but important distinction. As the sun begins its descent, the steep mountainside falls into shade earlier in the day, allowing the vines to rest during the peak of the evening heat. This natural moderation preserves freshness and extends the growing season, fostering slow, even ripening.

This vineyard produces two compelling expressions of Howell Mountain terroir: Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. These are wines that capture both the drama of their setting and the restraint afforded by Dragon's unique exposure—unmistakably Howell Mountain, yet singularly Dragon.
