Pesenti Vineyard Grenache
Pesenti Vineyard Grenache
Paso Robles
HISTORY
There’s good reason Paso is known for Rhône varieties, and this Grenache is further proof. Perched on steep calcareous hillsides of uplifted seabed (even studded with marine fossils!) the Pesenti Estate is home to some of the oldest Grenache vines in California. While Paso Robles is now widely considered part of the modern Rhône pantheon, Grenache has grown on this property for more than a century, with about an acre of centenarian vines still producing fruit—a rare and remarkable testament to this variety’s long-standing place in California’s viticultural history.
Our Grenache vineyard unfolds across three plantings. The original 1920s "Outhouse Block" remains a working tribute to early California farming, and the two “suitcase clones”: a 2002 planting of Grenache Noir, and a 2005 planting from Priorat, nod to Grenache’s global heritage and modern resurgence.
